Frequently Asked Questions
Will I need ongoing maintenance treatment?
In many cases, some form of maintenance treatment is beneficial, particularly if your lifestyle places ongoing demands on your body — such as prolonged sitting, stress, or repetitive physical activity. However, this isn’t always necessary. Depending on your condition, recovery, and lifestyle, you may only require a short course of treatment followed by a few sessions each year to help maintain mobility and prevent pain from returning.
Can you help my back, neck, or shoulder pain?
In many cases, yes. Osteopathy is effective for muscle strains, joint stiffness, postural issues, disc irritation, sports injuries, stress-related pain and chronic tension. Treatment focuses on identifying the cause of pain and restoring healthy movement rather than just treating symptoms.
How many sessions will I need?
Most people notice improvement within 2–4 sessions. The total number depends on how long the issue has been present, your general health, lifestyle factors, and whether the condition is acute or chronic. A personalised treatment plan is discussed after your initial assessment.
Will you click my back or neck?
Not usually. While some practitioners use spinal manipulation, at Mayfair Osteopathy we use a wide range of gentle techniques such as soft tissue work, joint mobilisation and stretching. Spinal clicking is very rarely required, and treatment is always adapted to your comfort level.
What can I do at home to support my recovery?
Your osteopath may recommend gentle stretching, strengthening exercises, posture improvements, staying active, heat or cold therapy, hydration and stress management. All advice and exercises are tailored specifically to you following your assessment.
